From recent Frontier Fellow Nicole Lavelle
On December 2, my last day in Green River, Jack, Chris and I drove up to Roosevelt, Utah to pick up new Epicenter newsprint brochures that had been printed at the Uintah Basin-Standard. When we set out to find a printer for this project, we knew we wanted to keep it as local as possible. A few phone calls revealed that both the Emery County Progress and the Price Sun Advocate were printed with the Uintah Basin-Standard in Roosevelt.
After a 5am breakfast at the West Winds truck stop (my going-away breakfast—- Lindsay and Maria joined us), we drove through the dark and through the mountains to arrive in Roosevelt just before 9am. Nathan Ashby, press operator, gave us a tour of their presses and machinery. We left to go back to Green River with 2000 copies of a new newsprint brochure to promote the Epicenter and its efforts.
Printing with a small-town newspaper was an excellent experience. I’m glad we stayed as close to Green River as possible. Want to get your hands on a newsprint brochure? The Epicenter will include one with every shipment of a t-shirt, zine, tote bag or other merchandise. So get shopping! They will also be distributed through the Epicenter network of friends and collaborators, so keep an eye out.
