Green River Golf Course
It’s almost warm enough outside to start planning a trip to the golf course…
Green River State Park golf course is a golf oasis on the banks of the Green River, with the Book Cliffs towering in the distance. The elevated tees and greens add character to a leisurely round of golf. The course offers fairways lined with mature cottonwood trees and water hazards from the meandering Green River. Surrounded by natural wonder, this nine-hole classic was designed to challenge the experienced player, but remain playable to newer golfers. After the challenge of nine holes, rest under a canopy of cottonwood trees on the banks of the Green River. The park is a starting point for boaters adventuring through Labyrinth and Stillwater canyons. Annual events include the 184-mile Friendship Cruise and Melon Days, which is the third weekend in September. Amenities include a boat dock and launch facilities, modern restrooms, hot showers, group camping, and covered group-use pavilion.
Nine holes of golf cost $10, and cart and club rental costs $5 each. What a steal, right?!
Great idea for Grand Junctionites: Hop on the 4pm Friday train to Green River (with your clubs or not!), book a room at the classic Robber’s Roost Motel (a short walk from the train station), eat dinner at Ray’s Tavern next door (best burgers in town), spend the next day enjoying the town of Green River (especially the golf course), book another night at the Robber’s Roost, eat dinner at the Tamarisk (best view of the river in town),
and then take the 8am Sunday morning train back to Green River. We bet you’ll spend under $125/person for the whole weekend!
